It’s seem Malaysia government decide not to extend Astro 20 years exclusive right for satellite broadcasting. The exclusive right was granted by the government in 1997.

According to the Communication and Multimedia minister, Astro still can continue it’s business after 2017 but not exclusively. Other companies can start purchase broadcasting services via satellite after 28th February 2017.

Well the move is expected since in 2016 there will be another satellite broadcasting provider, MyTV. Hopefully by the end of February 2017, there will be many choices of satellite broadcasting and IPTV providers.

As for me, I will always choose IPTV over normal satellite.
